Summary of our Team Goals

Work as One Team

What we would like to accomplish: We would like to have the whole team on board with every decision we make and to all be happy with the progress we’ve made

How we got there: We do our best to have a Team Roundtable every meeting to be able to make decisions together

Trust Engineering Process

What we would like to accomplish: This year we wanted to be more organized and thoughtful with our building and designing process.

How we got there: We do our best to write down our process and how we’ve gotten to each of our design choices, as well as document our building progress

Connect to STEM Community

What we would like to accomplish: We would like to connect with STEM related companies, spreading knowledge of FIRST and FTC.

How we got there: We went to Silicon Slopes and began many conversations about FIRST and what it is and how our team fits in. We also showed them how they could get involved as well.

Be Unique

What we would like to accomplish: This year we wanted to be a more recognizable team, as our color palette was pretty bland and easily overlooked.

How we got there: We changed our team colors to a more eye catching blue and gold combo to help with recognizability.

Work as One Team

What we would like to accomplish: This season we wanted to make a bigger impact in our community.

How we got there: We went to many Farmer’s Markets and well as a couple of BYU Chip Camps to engage our local community in STEM and introduce them to FIRST and FTC

Work as One Team

What we would like to accomplish: One of our goals is to build a connection between us team members.

How we got there: We do our best to work together and listen to everyone’s ideas so everyone can be heard and feel like an integral part of our team (because that’s what a team’s supposed to be!)

Children's Farmer Markets

This summer we participated in 9 Farmers Markets. At the market we fundraised, demoed our robot, and let the kids (and enthusiastic parents) drive the robot. From attending this event, we learned that many want to be involved in STEM, they just need the opportunity. We also learned that it doesn’t have to be complicated to provide them with the opportunity, so our team will make an effort to continue to provide more events like this. 102 Hours, 1,500 Impacted

May the 4th Recruiting

We put on this event to recruit new members to our team! We did it with a Star Wars theme (because if you have Peavler as a coach, how could you not?!) with cookies (because the dark side has them, obviously)! This event was a ton of fun and we did get a few new members and some squires as well!  (20 Hours, 15 Reached/ Impacted)(Ran, Planned, and Hosted)

STEM Day on the Hill

We went to the Utah State Capitol building. We were invited by the Utah STEM Action Center to present and demo our robot to legislators. Utah Speaker of the House, Brad Wilson, briefly dropped by and asked us about the program. We really enjoyed this experience and the opportunity that we had to make an impact on the attending legislators. We also had the opportunity to demo for visiting 5th graders.(35 Hours, 100 Reached/Impacted)

Sustainability Plan

  • Knights and Squires: This is the system we use to organize our team. Knights are registered competition team members. Knights have specific requirements such as competition and meeting attendance, as well as making a significant contribution to the team. Squires are knights in training, full members of the team, but not registered members. This comes with fewer requirements.
  • Mentoring: We mentor the FPA Provo FLL Team (team 50095 Techno Knights), which feeds into our FTC team. Generating student interest in first and STEM helps to continue our program for years to come.
  • Funding: Most of our team’s funding comes through grants we apply to every year. Additionally, we gain sponsors through a team promotional video, contacting, and presenting our team to businesses throughout UT County and the Silicon Slopes.
  • Other: Flyers, recommendations, presentations in the community through markets, STEM fairs, summer camps, and schools.
